Last week, the part-time master’s program at Aalen University of Applied Sciences kicked off the new academic year with a full enrollment: as always, with the renowned, experienced binocular vision professors from the College of Optometry at Pacific University in Portland, USA: Karl Citek and Ryan Bulson. Together with the lab team Katja Schiborr, Oliver Buck, and Frank Tannek, 24 students began the new academic year. “It’s really fun to be involved in the part-time master’s program in Aalen with such experienced professors and lecturers,” says Tom Luis Platten, ‘opti ambassador’ 2026. You can see it in the faces in the semester photo: the atmosphere couldn’t be better, despite lectures and lab sessions on five consecutive days, Friday through Tuesday, from 9 am to 5 pm.
The next highlight awaits master’s students and graduates on September 20 and 21, 2025, with the annual alumni event at the Center for Environment and Culture (ZUK) in Benediktbeuern. The chairman of the alumni association ‚Aalener Freunde der Optometrie e.V.‘, Georg Scheuerer, has once again invested a lot of time in recent months in planning a continuing education event with distinguished professors, including those from the US.

As the conference program demonstrates, the effort was worthwhile. Those interested in the latest research findings in the field of optometry can register until mid-September on the website of the alumni association ‚Aalener Freunde der Optometrie e.V.‘Â
